We are now
all aware that the state of Pennsylvania has changed their inspection process to
now include gas cap inspections and emissions testing for vehicles of production
years 1975 and newer .
It is true
that the testing that is done at our facility is monitored directly by the
state? Yes, this is now true for all PA inspection stations. We
capture your emmissions data by using our in-house emmissions computer, where
that data is sent directly to the states central computers for their evaluation
and approval.
Is there a
reason to fear this new testing? In most cases, the answer is absolutely
not. Even if your vehicle fails its initial emmissions test it may not be
as catastrophic as you might think. There are many things that can be done
to improve your vehicles emmissions. For example, some vehicles are
equipped with as many as three resinators or catalytic
converters. Think of a resinator or a catalytic converter as a
device that scrubs your vehicles emmissions or exhaust of pollutants.
Replace the faulty pollution device and your back in business. New
vehicles are also equipped with a series of computers and sensors, which may not
be operating correctly. A simple replacement could correct the
problem. All in all, what cleaner pollution standards means is that we
will all collectively benefit from it in the future.
Does this
mean we can fix every car? No way! You've seen them, vehicles that
are burning excessive amounts of oil, for example. The new standards are
designed to take these vehicles off the road for all of our benefit. This
is not to say that the vehicle cannot be fixed. What it means is that the
owner of that vehicle has to decide is it worth it to repair that vehicle or
would I be better served at getting a newer vehicle, something all vehicle
owners must eventually decide.
If you'd like to more information about
PA emmissions standards, and how it applies to your vehicle, we'll do
our best to help answer your questions. Don't be afraid, we just may
be able to help. We'd also be happy to provide you
with a cost estimate at your pleasure. Just give us a
call.
